Stanford Math Tournament (SMT)

Location: In-Person: Stanford University Campus, CA
Online: Available for international and non-traveling students.
Date: April 17-18, 2026 (In-person)

Grades: 9-12 (Online is open to all grades)
Qualifications: Selective/Lottery based on application. Top school teams from previous years receive priority.
Cost: $30 per student (In-person, includes meals and t-shirt)

Description: SMT is one of the largest student-run math tournaments in the world. It features a Power Round (proof-based), a Team Round, and Individual Subject Tests (Algebra, Calculus, Discrete, and Geometry) or a General Test. The event also includes the fast-paced, live-scored Guts Round.
Registration: Requires a team of 5-6 students. Schools, organizations, and individuals may apply, though school-based teams are given preference in the lottery.

9:00 AM Opening Ceremony
9:30 AM Power Round (80 min)
11:10 AM Team Round (50 min)
1:00 PM Individual Subject Test #1
2:00 PM Individual Subject Test #2
3:30 PM Guts Round (Live-scored)
5:00 PM Awards Ceremony
Other Details: No calculators allowed. In-person participants must bring a signed parent waiver.
